It was a hot summer afternoon in July. It was the kind of day in the American West when the humidity levels are in the 20%-30% range compared to the East, where they are above 70%. It's so arid that after many days, when the wind picks up, it blows dust into the air. It gets in your eyes and makes it feel like there is sandpaper in them. Especially when you have to blink, I watched this little group come into the water hole, where they all took turns getting a drink. After they left, I followed them into the flats separating the water hole and the grazing grounds. The mares will lead the way, but the stallions will direct traffic.
