This is not an uncommon interaction between stallions. From observations over the years I can't always tell if they are sizing each other up, or sometimes it's a way to great each other.
I've seen horses run four hundred yards apart to have this conversation, then walk off like no big deal. A lot of times the kicking and squealing they exhibit will be over a stud pile they are both lying claim too. When they are confronting each other over mares they will go face to face.
But whatever it is, its an impressive site and interaction to witness!
I like the colors, mood, tones, and the dust coming off their backs.
