One of the best times to photograph wild horses is around the waterhole. The horses are the most active. The stallions are on high alert protecting their mares, the bachelor stallions will inevitably wind up in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the band stallions will chase them off in a hurry. Lots of action! Sometimes, I am so overly stimulated I don't know where to point my camera.
This band of horses was the last to the waterhole this evening. The rest of the herd had drifted off, leaving them to relax and get a drink without much worry. It was a surreal moment in an otherwise hectic scene.
